Aspiring Educator Scholarship
Launch your teaching career at WKU with the GRREC/WKU Aspiring Educator Scholarship. Two seniors from GRREC districts will receive $2,000 for year one at WKU, renewable for years two through four while in good academic standing and progressing in an education major.
Co-sponsored by GRREC and Western Kentucky University. Apply February 5 to April 18.
About the Aspiring Educator Scholarship
Below are the key details you need to confirm before applying: who is eligible, how awards are structured and renewed, and the dates and steps for submitting your application.
Elegibility
- Open to high school seniors enrolled in a GRREC member district who plan to attend Western Kentucky University and major in education.
- Not eligible: employees of GRREC or WKU, their family members, or anyone living in the same household as those employees or family members.
- Applications must be accurate and complete.
Awards
- Two recipients each receive $2,000 for the first year at WKU ($1,000 from GRREC and $1,000 from WKU).
- The scholarship renews at $2,000 per year for years two, three, and four while recipients remain in good academic standing and continue to make adequate progress in WKU’s education program.
- Selection uses multiple reviewers and a blind scoring process.
- Note: For the 2025–2026 school year, GRREC will fund a third award, the Kelli S. Bush Aspiring Educator Scholarship.
Timing & Submission
- Application window: February 5 to April 18. Submissions after April 18 are not considered.
- Notification date: May 2.
- Response format: written responses are standard. By request, applicants may submit audio or video responses. Contact Savannah.denning@grrec.org for audio or video submission details.
- Question requirements: answer 3 total questions. One is required for all applicants. Choose 2 additional questions from the provided bank. If more than 2 optional questions are answered, only the first 2 will be scored.
- How to apply: submit via the Aspiring Educator Scholarship Application Google Form. Edits are not allowed after submission.
